Willem Sleegers was a Senior Behavioral Scientist at Rethink Priorities. As part of the survey team, he conducted research on attitude assessments and attitude change, using surveys and experimental designs. His research interests cover everything EA, with a particular interest in animal welfare. He is a strong supporter, and contributor, of open science. Before joining RP, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University, where he also obtained his Ph.D. After leaving RP he joined Centraal Bureau voor de Satistiek (Statistics Netherlands) as a Methodologist.

Why some people disagree with the CAIS statement on AI

Previous research from Rethink Priorities found that a majority of the population agreed with a statement from the Center for AI Safety (CAIS) that stated “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.” This research piece explores why 26% of the population disagreed with this statement.
