Policymakers
Rethink Priorities enables policymakers to improve their decision-making through evidence and data-driven analysis.
Our interdisciplinary team conducts rigorous research to identify solutions to issues across animal welfare, climate change, global health, international development, and other important and neglected areas.
As an independent think-and-do tank, our research and decision-making tools offer insights for policymakers across countries, political parties, branches of government, and agencies. Our empirical analysis and expert testimonies have informed legislatures and public officials across the United Kingdom, Chile, the European Union, the United States, and beyond.
Understand
constituents
Unpack nuanced views using
our surveys and data analysis.
Rethink Priorities conducts polling, message testing, behavioral experiments, focus groups, and data analysis on public perceptions of contemporary issues. Our team has investigated British attitudes toward existential risks, Americans’ views on artificial intelligence, certain technologies to prevent pandemics, animal welfare laws, and other emerging policy areas.
Drive
impact
Identify areas for improvement
using our open-source evaluations.
Rethink Priorities researches various governmental and intergovernmental initiatives to understand their effectiveness. For example, our team evaluated the US government’s Priority Review Vouchers program, which provides financial incentives for drug companies to address neglected tropical diseases. Our research identified areas of improvement and next steps.
Make
change
Identifying the most cost-
effective pathways for change
Our assessment of animal welfare ballot initiatives passed between 2006 and 2018 revealed that this pathway did in fact improve welfare standards, although it was less cost-effective than campaigns aimed at pressuring corporations to change their policies.
Save
lives
Focus on the most important issues and how to solve them.
Rethink Priorities investigates a range of problems and interventions to determine where there is the most potential for impact. After reviewing the evidence that 1.2 million people die each year due to road injuries, our team reviewed case studies from countries where road safety has improved. This research uncovered how driving key policy changes can save lives.
